A Cajun restaurant in Texas is demarcating its men’s and women’s bathrooms in a way management must think is smart: with 2 pictures of Caitlyn Jenner, before and after her transition. But for transgender patrons, that joke stings hard.

The Dallas Morning News’ Dom DiFurio first pointed out the bathroom images at Dodie’s Place in Allen on Twitter, criticizing the restaurant online. Followers pointed out and and DiFurio quickly agreed how the bathroom stigmatizes transgender women.

DiFurio told the Daily Dot which Allen isn’t seated in a area, which might explain why the restaurant went out of its strategy.   The bathroom’s potential audience doesn’t excuse the joke. After all, lots of people reside in red states.

“Collin County, as a whole is considered a bastion in North Texas, where Allen, Texas is,” DiFurio said. “that I wouldn’t consider it a place. ”

Dodie ’ s Location was reached out to by the Daily Dot  but has not got a response.

Obviously sex with before and after photos of a transgender person is remarkably insensitive. The images indicate that sex is simply skin-deep, by designating Jenner as a man before her sex transitioning. In fact, science implies that transgender people experience gender dysphoria because they encounter their gender identity emotionally, not only physically. To put it differently, Caitlyn Jenner was a woman before she started changing her entire body and title.

The images also indicate that transgender women have to transition or appear a certain method to be seen as women. They need to appear like cis women or attempt to pass through a femme sex expression. Women that are grappling with their gender identity or into their transition, such as Jenner because photograph that was pre-transition, are billed as too masculine to utilize the women’s room. It’s a misunderstanding of gender dysphoria, one which can result in transgender women being discriminated against if they don’t pass.

Then there is the allusion, whether intended or not, to Texas’s bathroom bill which has been up for debate this year. Now dead, the law could have made transgender people use the toilet that related to their sex, not with. To put it differently, the treatment of transgender people has already been up for grabs from the nation.

Plain and simple, Dodie ’ s is currently turning transgender women . Putting the images next to one another reminds patrons who Caitlyn Jenner was known as a man for years. Turning a lady’s transitioning to a public spectacle is not simply hurtful, it could be invasive for trans women who wish to leave their pre-transition years behind.

“ I watched it as a bit of a physical manifestation of the nod and wink jokes to me once I see folks from that section of city,” DiFurio said. “The sort of jokes where you feel as the person would like you to laugh to confirm their inclinations, but doing so would perpetuate a dreadful atmosphere for anybody from the LGBTQ community. ”

Dodie’s Place doesn’t know those consequences, nevertheless. Its direction thinks of sex transitioninga man becoming a woman. ” This makes for a cheap laugh for patrons visiting the bathroom, however the restaurant should keep in mind that real violence results from that kind of insensitivity.
