KABUL, Afghanistan — Afghan officials say a suicide car bombing in the southern Helmand province has targeted a police compound, killing one policeman and wounding two.
Omar Zwak, spokesman for the governor, claims that that the attack targeted a border police compound in Lashkar Gah on Friday.
Abdul Ghafar Safi, the Helmand chief of police, says there was just 1 bomber involved. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
Helmand is the heartland of the Taliban.
In western Farah province, spokesman Mohammad Naser Mehri maintains an Afghan airstrike hit on a Taliban collecting, killing eight insurgents and wounding four civilians, along with 11.
Mehri says that the attack happened in Khaki Safed’s district on Thursday.
